07.07.2023 BDB's eco action to renovate the shelter and park equipment near the Zlatnite Mostove (Golden Bridges) locality
Urban areas are home to nearly 70% of the European Union's population and cities themselves face many challenges. If we take a quick poll of Bulgarian citizens on "how to improve life in the city and municipality?", it is certain that we will receive a variety of suggestions. However, it is also certain that most of the participants will unite around an answer related to the environment, clean air and access to greenery and nature.
In Sofia we have one big advantage: 47% of the city is covered by parks, gardens, and forests. However, this requires serious resources and a commitment to keeping them in good condition. It is for this reason that the BDB team launched a series of volunteer "green" initiatives, the second of which was in Vitosha Nature Park.
On one of the most famous recreational meadows in the area of "Golden Bridges", there is a mountain shelter, built probably in the 80s of the last century. The shelter was dilapidated, smoky and far from its original functions and condition. Today, thanks to our efforts, the roof has been renovated, the ceiling whitewashed, the dirt cleaned, and the hearth rebuilt. The benches and alcoves around the shelter were also given a new lease of life - they were skillfully varnished even by the youngest participants in the initiative.
We hope that the renovated mountain infrastructure will create comfort for all tourists in the nature park and of course that they will also take care to keep it in good condition. And our eco-initiatives to improve the green system of the capital continue in autumn.
