The participants discussed the possibilities for bank financing of projects in the RES sector in the first international forum "Energy Evolution 2023", which is being held in Sofia. The Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the Bulgarian Development Bank, Iliya Karanikolov, joined the discussion under the motto "Be Renewable".
He presented the bank's products supporting small and medium-sized businesses in the transition to a low-carbon economy. BDB offers co-financing of projects under European programmes to achieve energy efficiency, construction of photovoltaic plants, purchase of batteries for energy storage, creation of circular production and other projects related to the implementation of green business models.
"Our results for the past year are encouraging – 13% of the loans granted by BDB are for green projects and 18 MW of RES capacities were installed," announced the bank's Executive Director.
BDB's popular "Green Energy Financing" programme offers project financing for solar installations with minimal customer co-payments. In 2022, the bank also implemented a loan programme for energy efficiency, aimed at companies in the "Processing industry" sector, which submitted project proposals under the procedure "Recovery of SMEs by improving energy efficiency" financed under OPIC.
A few days ago, the bank also launched a new on-lending programme to support households that apply to replace their solid fuel energy sources (stove, boiler, fireplace, etc.) with renewable ones under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
Thanks to the guarantee provided by BDB, citizens can obtain unsecured loans from commercial banks which are partners in the programme. The requirement is that they have signed a contract for grant financing under the Procedure "National scheme for supporting households in the field of energy from renewable sources" implemented by the Ministry of Energy.
