BDB volunteers renovate recreation areas in Western Park
More than 60 volunteers from the Bulgarian Development Bank took part in an action to renovate the three largest recreation areas in the Western Park /Zapaden Park/ in Sofia. The Forest Park is popular as the ‘old part’ of the Western Park and is one of the favourite resting places of Sofia residents.
Bank Group employees and their families helped restore more than 20 benches and tables for rest, and painted playground equipment and gazebos.
"As an organization focused on sustainable development policies, it is of great importance for the BDB to encourage people to contribute to environmental protection. Our efforts are also a natural continuation of the care that the Metropolitan Municipality has taken in recent years to make Sofia the green capital of Europe," said Iliya Karanikolov, BDB Board Chair and Executive Officer.
Zapaden Park is the second largest park in Sofia, which underwent extensive reconstruction with funds from the Operational Programme "Regions in Growth". The project resulted in a complete renovation of the representative part of the park with rehabilitated pedestrian and bicycle paths, playgrounds for children and sports, interactive installations, a rock garden and much more. Lighting and effective video surveillance was installed to increase the safety of citizens in the park and to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities.
