22.05.2024 Minister Rosen Karadimov presented for discussion the draft strategy of the Bulgarian Development Bank
A working group of deputy ministers, employers, local authorities and trade unions discussed new directions in the Bank's work for the next three-year period
The Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) will contribute to economic growth and sustainable investment in support of small and medium-sized enterprises, the public sector and the implementation of national policies. This is set out in the Bank's three-year strategy for the period 2024-2026, a draft of which was presented today to the working group at the Ministry of Innovation and Growth.
"We propose that BDB compact and further develop its statutory functions by entering more actively into public investment. At the same time, BDB will be able to strengthen its support for SMEs, which remain the Bank's focus in the new three-year period," said Minister of Innovation and Growth Assoc. Prof. Rosen Karadimov, PhD, who is also Chairman of the Inter-Ministerial Group.
The 2024-2026 Strategy for BDB's operations has been drafted over the past year, in dialogue with the Advisory Council of the Bank's Supervisory Board. The identification of public policies that BDB should be involved in is being carried out by representatives of the Ministry of Innovation and Growth and seven other ministries, all national organizations representing employers, the two trade unions and representatives of local authorities.
The transformation of BDB into a national promotional bank and the steps for such transformation are part of a process that is expected to be completed beyond the planning horizon of the strategy (2026). Following the interdepartmental discussion on the text, the strategy will be submitted to the Council of Ministers.
